   Hello Darren,

   As you might know already, it seems that even if proxy settings in IE options has been locked down already thru GP, however, users could still modify this by going the Charms menu > PC Settings\Network\Proxy for Windows 8.1. Is there a policy or way to lock this down as well? Thank you in advance.

     I’m curious how you are locking down the proxy settings? Are you using GP Preferences? If so, have you also disabled the connections tab in IE using Admin Template policy?

       We are locking down proxy setting with IE Admin Templates and not thru GPP. The current setting is the Connections Tab in IE is still enabled however the LAN settings button is grayed out from there. Do I need to disable the connections tab completely in Admin Template just for the lockdown to happen in Charms (Proxy) as well? Are there any other options just in case?

   Hi Darren,

   I just disabled the connections tab in IE thru Admin Templates (tried Computer & UserConfig).

   The proxy setting menu is still accessible in Charms menu. =( , please help. thank you.

     OK. I see what you’re saying now–at least partly. I disabled the Connections tab in Internet Options using Admin Template policy but was still able to configure a proxy via the Charms menu. How are you explicitly setting a proxy server using Admin Templates? Did you create a custom ADMX? Also, did you verify, when you set the proxy through the Charms menu, that it effects all IE sessions and not just the Metro version of IE? Just curious.

       Hello,

       It’s actually a proxypac address (AutoConfigURL) we set thru GPP > User Config > Registry. No custom ADMX, we use the IE Admin template just to restrict the IE proxy settings from users.

       Yes, it affects the Desktop IE when I try changing the proxy thru Charms, that’s why it could be a big deal not to lock this menu.

           I confirmed your observations. The Charms menu totally circumvents proxy settings. Neat!
